Descriptive Analysis
The following are my reflections...
This assignment was fun, but difficult at the same time. This week was a very busy one for me, so I feel my paper in this class isn't what it could be....
#1. I feel the paper turned out pretty good under the circumstances of this busy week I have had.
#2. I feel I accomplised what I set out to do with the description, but I feel it wasn't enough.
#3. I feel I could have gone into greater detail about some of the little qualities of Sex and the City that make it such a great show.
#4. I feel my three biggest strengths of my essay are...1, it's an easy read, my ideas and thoughts are well organized. 2, I feel I am a decent writer in that I make few grammatical errors etc. and 3, The essay was well thought out.
#5. This takes me back to number 3, and another weakness is my word choices, at times I get lazy and use words that are simple as opposed to words that are more interesting.
#6. I'd like my reviewers to focus on wheather or not my paper has enough content, do you feel you need more info. on my artifact? Is it a clear description, etc.
Thats all for now...

2 Comments:
1. What did you think of the essay overall?
I liked it. Overall it gave a good broad description of the show, although I think it could be a bit more specific.
2. Is it clear what text/artifact the author is working with? Is the artifact of reasonable scope? Is it clearly defined? Do you have any questions about the artifact?
I think it is clear what you are working with, although, depending on what you will be asking, you might want to narrow this down to a season rather than the entire series.
3. Does the author explain the relevant characteristics of the artifact? What did you find most interesting about the artifact?
I found the analysis of how each woman represents a unique part of a woman the most interesting. I think you explain the relevant characteristics about this, although there are some things that could be talked about more.
4. Please comment on the writing of this essay. Does the author use language well? Are there numerous errors? Is the tone of the essay academic? What improvements can be made?
You use the language well; there were not that many errors. It could maybe be more academic I suppose, unless your approach for this is to be more of an easy read.
5. Does the author create an image of the artifact in your mind? After reading this essay do you have a good sense of the artifact? How might the description be improved?
You do create an image of the artifact in my mind. I have already seen several of the shows, and I feel that this enhanced my sense of the show. The description may be more improved if there was more detail in this, and if there was a clearer set of themes and issues discussed within this. Maybe bracketing this would help.
6. What questions do you have about the artifact after having read the paper that the author may want to address?
I am just wondering where you will be going with this. There are so many ways you can go, this will definitely be interesting.
7. After thinking about this artifact, what are some of the “big questions” that you think might stem from an examination of the artifact?
I think maybe how women are represented, whether it is more positive or negative, and whether this show contributed to a better or worse image of women overall. Or also maybe the issues about sex in the media and how it is censored.
8. What do you think this artifact might teach us about rhetoric or communication?
I think it will teach us how to better represent women, and look at media, while also giving us a broader acceptance of sexuality in the media.
9. What do you think makes this artifact unique? Does the author make this clear?
I think this artifact is unique because it can go so many places, and I do think that you make this clear.
10. What do you see as the biggest strengths and weaknesses of this essay?
The biggest strengths of this essay is that the plot is explained well, although regarding the weakness, I think it can be more specifically explained.
1. I really like the essy. I like that you were very personal about it and you told it kind of how Carry would have; like a narrative.
2. I know for sure that you are working with the HBO series Sex and the City, however, you might want to pick a certain season to work with to make your analysis more percise.
3. You did a great job defining the characters. I think the most intersting part about your artifact is how you described that even though all the women are complex in their own way, they still do, somehow, relate to one aspect of another females life in the real world.
4. I really liked your writing style. I have to admit, it through me off at first, but I do have to say that it goes hand in hand with that Carries' and I loved it. Definately not alot of errors either.
5. Yes- you created a very vivid image about who all those women were and the true adjectives that describe them. The descriptions about all the women were right on, however I think the paper could have used alittle bit more description about the overall tone and intentions of the series.
6. The only question I have is... what episodes are you going to focus on and why?
7. One of the "Big Questions" that I think could be addressed about this artifact is... why is this show so popular? Does it imply something about the every-day women of America?
8. I think this HBO clasic could teach us about the growing acceptance of sex in the media. It could show us that, more and more, there is a growing population of women who don't wan't to be a 'Desperate Housewife' and accept the fact that it is OK to be your riskay selves and just have fun with random people.
9. I think this artifact is unique, at least in this century, because of its blunt story lines and slutty yet sucessful female characters who aren't afraid to stand up for what they think is right.
10. I think your biggest strengths include your writing style and tecnique. Even though I am already a fan of the show, I still felt like I was reading about it for the first time and that you were really talking to me about its characters. The only weakness I would say would still just have to be that narrowing down of which season you were going to talk about, but other that that, I can't wait to see what subliminal measages were being sent to me all this time. Great job.
